CS8021/CS8026 - Quad/Dual EPON OLT Chip

The Cortina Systems® CS8021 Quad Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Network (GEPON or EPON) Optical Line Terminal (OLT) chip (CS8021) supports four EPON ports in a single chip to significantly simplify board design and lower the system Bill of Materials (BOM) cost. The CS8021 enables equipment vendors to develop a high port density chassis or stackable rack mount system targeted at the Central Office (CO).

The Cortina CS8026 Dual Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Network (GEPON or EPON) Optical Line Terminal (OLT) chip (CS8026) supports 2 EPON ports in a single chip for vendors needing only a dual port design.

Features and Benefits

EPON Protocol

• Implements standard-compliant Ethernet Multi-point MAC control functions specified in IEEE 802.3ah

• Supports complete processing and generation of MPCP control messages

• Emulates point-to-point link between each ONU and OLT using LLID (logical link identifier)

• Supports single-copy-broadcast (SCB)

• Supports ONU-to-ONU communication and emulates LAN service using layer 2 MAC address

• Supports standard based as well as vendor specific registration and deregistration process

Ethernet OAM Management

• Implements complete IEEE 802.3ah OAM functions

• Supports bridge/Ethernet MIBs

• Supports EFM MIB

• Supports EFM OAM MIB

• Supports remote ONU management
