The Cortina CS3512 Network Processor provides superior performance and functionality for Router Gateway, NAS, IP Set Top Box, VoIP and other SME and SOHO applications. The device has single 32-bit ARM9 RISC Processors with up to 400 MIPS total performance. The device integrates a full featured hardware crypto engine, two 10/100/1000 Ethernet MACs, dual USB 2.0 hosts or clients, dual IDE or SATA interfaces, a 66 MHz 32-bit PCI interface, and direct interfaces to color LCD and SLIC modules. The device also includes an intelligent and programmable power management unit for portable system applications.
The Security Acceleration Engine has a performance of over 600/200 Mbps running DES/3DES; 237/197/169 Mbps running 128/192/256 bits AES. This Security Acceleration Engine also performs hardware acceleration on CCMP and RC4 encryption; SHA1, MD5, HMAC-SHA1, and HMAC-MD5 authentication. The hardware crypto engine in the CS3516 allows data encryption on network storage, DRM in multimedia IP protection, and VPN to run at full wire speed.
The embedded dual 10/100/1000 MACs with the industry standard MII and RGMII allow the system integrators the flexibility of configuring a traditional NAS server system with one or two channel 10/100/1000 Ethernet PHY, or a NAS server plus router gateway capabilities with one WAN port and one LAN port. The Layer 2-4 hardware switching and Layer 2-7 packet classification enable high end router gateway designs for the Fiber-to-the-Home, EPON and GPON, and other high speed internet infrastructures carrying data, voice, video and on-line commerce and gaming services.
The dual IDE cores, single IDE physical interface and dual SATA interfaces allow high performance data throughput and hard drive selection flexibility. The attached hardware XOR engine enables wire-speed RAID5 operations.
Performance enhancing hardware acceleration circuitries are included in the EMAC, DDR controller, and IDE control modules. The complete hardware acceleration engine improves the overall throughput in TCP/IP/UDP transmit, receive, and SAMBA read and write operations without the intervention of the CPU.
The dual USB2.0, configurable to be the host or client by pin configuration or software, allows maximum flexibility in peripheral device integration, such as flash memory, USB control device, and USB2.0 hard drives.
The PCI bus supports four master devices. The system integrator can add MPEG encoder, decoder, WiFi 802.11a/b/g/n access point, or client functions, and other devices to deliver a complete wireless IP Set Top Box or Media Server product.
